The following policy sets out the marae rules and contains specific information consistent with the kawa of Ohako developed for the purpose of safety and protection of the marae and all who either use or visit the “Ohako Marae Reservation”.

                    

We encourage all beneficiaries, whānau, hapū, iwi, community groups and other organisations to utilise the marae and its facilities in a manner that further promotes the intent that this policy sets out to establish. 

 

Bookings:     

 

  • By booking Ohako Marae you acknowledge our cultural and customary duty to prioritise tangihanga. Should your booking be postponed due to a tangihanga we will endeavour to find an alternative date for your booking or all monies paid will be refunded.

  • The Ohako Marae Trust reserves the right to decline requests for any booking and the right to give no reason for declining or cancelling any booking.

  • All booking requests remain tentative until the deposit fee has been paid.

  • The standard check-in time for all reservations is 11:00 AM, with a check-out time of 10:00 AM. These timings have been established to facilitate a smooth transition between bookings. We are committed to accommodating late check-out requests wherever feasible. Confirmation of such arrangements can only be provided closer to the date of your reservation.

 

Marae & Wharenui:

 

  • The Marae shall be kept in a clean, tidy and functional state at all times.

  • The first aid kit is situated in the wharekai. All items used must be replaced and will incur costs.

  • Ohako Marae maintains an inventory of its stock and equipment in the Wharenui and Wharekai. Missing or broken items will be charged to the hirer.

  • Filming & Photography are strictly prohibited. Consent must be obtained from the Ohako Marae Trust.

  • All footwear to be removed upon entry to the wharenui.

  • No kai (food) to be consumed in the wharenui.

  • No running in or jumping on mattresses/pillows inside the wharenui.

  • Animals and pets are not permitted within the Marae Reservation.

 

Parking:
 

  • Park within the designated parking areas only.

  • Vehicles are not permitted to enter the marae ātea - the entry gate is to remain closed at all times.

 

 

Cleaning & Rubbish:
 

  • A full clean-up of the Marae must be undertaken prior to departure.

  • You must use the bins provided and remove and dispose of all waste when you vacate the Marae premises.

  • You must ensure the wharekai bins are lined prior to waste being deposited. The hirer must supply their own bin liners.

  • A cleaning checklist (provided) must be completed and signed to initiate the release of bond.

Smoking & Vaping:
 

  • The marae is essentially smoke and vape free other than within the designated area (concrete pad) situated opposite the main entrance to Ohako wharekai.

 

Alcohol & Illegal substances:
 

  • Alcohol consumption is permitted for hakari & functions (Toasting & light drinks). Any further consumption of alcohol beyond the hakari/function is by arrangement only and limited to the kauta area.

  • The hirer is responsible and shall be deemed liable for any matter attached to or arising from the consumption and/or service of alcohol.

  • The consumption and possession of all illegal and illicit substances is not permitted anywhere within the Marae Reservation.
