David Pardoe
David Matiu Pardoe's story begins in Gisborne, where he was born and spent his early years living on Papatu Road, near Ohako Marae, with his aunt Miriama Te Ota, and parents Mereana and Carlyle. His connection to his family's roots, particularly his ties to his grandparents Anaru Tikitiki and Whareherehere Te Ota, has deeply influenced his life.
After moving to Taurau Valley with his family, David completed his primary education at Manutuke School and later attended Lytton High School. His professional journey led him into the forest industry, where he spent many years in forest management across the South Island, Central North Island, and even in Western Samoa. Eventually, David transitioned into the log transport industry, gaining extensive experience in this field.
In 2014, David returned to Te Tairawhiti, taking up a part-time role as Programme Manager for a trust that facilitates training for machine operators and truck drivers. Soon after his return, he was invited by his uncle Whareherehere (Pom Pom) Tikitiki and cousin Stan Pardoe to become a trustee for Ohako Marae. Since accepting this role in 2015, David has been an active and committed trustee, dedicating his efforts to the marae and the community it serves. His journey is marked by a blend of professional expertise and a deep commitment to his cultural heritage and family legacy.
